Spotify is down

Spotify appears to be down at the moment, with users across social media having started reporting that the app and website aren’t working over the last hour or so. It’s not working for those of us at The Verge who have tried, either.

Downdetector shows a spike in the number of reports about problems with the music streaming service that started at about 10:40AM ET. Just after noon ET, the Spotify Status account on X acknowledged the problems, posting, “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!.” There’s still no word however on what might be causing the problem.

The outage seems to affect both the app and the website — while the app won’t play music, the website is having trouble loading. When I attempted to visit, I received a server error. We’ve reached out to Spotify for more information.
