Today is your last chance to save on Disney Plus before the password sharing crackdown

It’s been a rough couple of months for Disney Plus subscribers. First came news of yet another price hike — which will take effect on October 17th — followed by Disney’s announcement that it will begin charging $6.99 a month to add an “extra member” to an ad-supported plan (so long, password sharing). Fortunately, both new and returning subscribers can lock in three months of Disney’s ad-supported Basic plan for $1.99 a month through the end of today, September 27th.

As is the case with the base tier with most streaming services, Disney Plus Basic doesn’t allow you to download content for offline viewing. It does provide access to the same slate of programming as the more premium tiers, though, which means you can tap into TV shows and movies from National Geographic, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and — surprise — Disney itself. It’s not a bad time to sign up, either; Inside Out 2 just hit the streaming service less than a week ago, as did Disney Plus’ new WandaVision spinoff, Agatha All Along. Needless to say, I can’t think of a better way to embrace the impending return of spooky season than with Kathryn Hahn and a rag-tag coven of witches.

More deals, discounts, and ways to save

• This isn’t a deal, per se, but you can now preorder Meta’s Quest 3S starting at $299 from Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy ahead of its debut on October 15. The forthcoming VR headset is essentially a lower-cost version of the Quest 3 with the same performance and mixed reality features, except it features (slightly) better battery life, lower-resolution displays, and a narrower field of view. Still, it looks like a welcome entry-level replacement for the Quest 2, one that also comes with the Quest-exclusive Batman: Arkham Shadow.
• If you want a better way to keep your hot drinks, well, hot, as we descend into the fall, Ember’s Travel Mug 2 Plus is now on sale at Amazon for $165.37 (about $35 off). The 16-ounce smart tumbler lets you use an accompanying app for Android or iOS to set your beverage at your preferred temperature, which it can hold for up to three hours using the built-in battery. The “Plus” model takes things further with support for Apple’s Find My feature, allowing Apple users to quickly locate their vessel should they ever misplace it.
• Star Wars Outlaws is seeing its first notable discount at the Ubisoft Store, where you can grab a digital copy for PC for $54.99 ($15 off) with promo code AUTUMN24. I’ve spent a good 15 hours with it so far, and while I agree that it’s not the most revolutionary open-world game in terms of combat or structure, the caper is a fantastic Star Wars simulator with great music, plenty of familiar locales to explore, and lots and lots of scum and villainy.
